How to get rid of appliances in Orlando

The short answer

Every appliance has a published flat price:

Carry-out is included from any room, any floor, or a garage you have to reverse a car out of first. The per-visit minimum is $75, so a countertop microwave on its own books as a $75 visit.

Refrigerant is handled, and it is not a surcharge

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners contain refrigerant that has to be recovered properly by someone qualified before the unit is scrapped. That is a federal requirement, not a local one, and it is the single reason a fridge cannot simply be thrown in the back of a truck with a chain.

We handle it. It is inside the $164. There is no EPA fee, no refrigerant recovery charge, no environmental surcharge and no line item added afterwards. If a quote from anyone has "plus recovery fee" attached to it, that is a decision they made about their pricing, not a fee anybody is obliged to charge you separately.

The practical version: you pay one number, the unit leaves, and the compliance side is not your problem.

Retailer haul-away: great, but only on delivery day

If you are buying a replacement, ask for haul-away at the point of sale. It is frequently included with delivery and it is the cheapest route available.

The constraint is narrow and people miss it. It works on the day the new appliance arrives, and only for the one unit being replaced. Not the week after. Not the second fridge in the garage. Not the dryer if you only bought a washer.

The other common failure in this metro is disconnection. Garage laundry hookups in the 1970s and 80s housing stock out through Ocoee, Union Park and Casselberry are frequently original, and the shutoff valve is seized. Delivery crews will not take an appliance they cannot safely disconnect, so the new machine comes off the truck and the old one stays exactly where it was.

If either of those applies, the old unit is a separate job. That is what the flat prices above are for.

Step by step

• Empty it. Fridges and freezers completely, including the door shelves and the ice maker bin. In Central Florida heat, a unit opened on a driveway half full of food is a genuinely unpleasant twenty minutes for everyone.
• Disconnect what you safely can. Unplug it. Shut off and disconnect the water line to a fridge, washer or dishwasher if the valve turns.
• Call a trade for the rest. Gas ranges, hard-wired units and tank water heaters should be disconnected by a licensed plumber or electrician before the visit.
• Tape the doors. Fridge and freezer doors swinging on a carry is how someone gets hurt.
• Clear the route. On a slab house everything leaves through the garage or the front door. Move the car out before the window starts.
• Book it. Send a photo, get the flat price, take a morning slot.

The Orlando garage appliance

Nearly every house in this metro has an extra appliance in the garage, and it is usually the one prompting the search.

The chest freezer bought for hurricane season, running in a space that passes 100 degrees on a July afternoon, doing the hardest work of its life in the worst possible conditions. The beer fridge inherited from a previous owner. The washer and dryer in the garage rather than a utility room, which is standard construction here, meaning the pair has to come out past a car, over the threshold and down the driveway apron.

Stacked pairs are one item at $189. Separate units are $133 + $128 = $261. Say which you have when you book, since they are carried completely differently.

Scrappers, and why free is not free

Put a washer at the end of a driveway in Pine Hills or Azalea Park and somebody will take it. Metal has value.

Two problems with relying on that. Refrigerant-bearing units need proper recovery, and a pickup truck with a chain is not doing it. And the appliance sitting at your curb waiting for that person is what generates a violation letter in a deed-restricted community like Winter Garden, Lake Nona or Horizon West, or a code complaint in the unincorporated county. It only counts as free if it actually leaves, quickly.

Kitchen renovations

If the appliances are going out as part of a remodel, price the whole thing at once rather than in pieces. A standard kitchen swap — fridge, electric range and dishwasher — is $164 + $134 + $109 = $407.

Add the cabinetry and countertop and compare against the ladder instead: a quarter truck is $241, a half is $431, and a laminate countertop section is $56 or $111 for stone. Clearing as the job goes keeps the driveway empty, which in an HOA subdivision is worth doing on its own.

Booking it

Tell us what it is, where it is, and whether it is freestanding, built in or stacked. A flat price comes back before anyone drives out, and you pay once it is on the truck.

If a new appliance is being delivered and the retailer will not take the old one, book the removal for the same morning. An old fridge on a Florida driveway for a day is a puddle, an insect problem and a conversation with a neighbor you do not need.
